Private Label Cookware Project Brief
Use this brief when preparing a private label cookware project for supplier discussion. A good brief helps suppliers understand the brand position, product scope, packaging expectations, compliance needs, and launch priorities before quoting or sampling.
Technical & Commercial Context: Private Label Sourcing
For a successful private label (OEM/ODM) cookware launch, buyers must detail both branding aesthetics and manufacturing logistics:
1. Logo Application Techniques
- Bottom Stamping (钢印): A mechanical press stamps the logo into the bottom metal sheet (exterior SS430 layer) before or during the cladding/bonding process. Highly durable and looks premium.
- Laser Etching (雷雕): A laser burns the logo onto the steel surface (commonly interior wall, handle, or lid). Offers high precision for detailed logos, but lacks the depth of stamping.
- Etched Logo (蚀刻): Chemical etching, often used for capacity measurement markings on the interior cooking surface.
- Handle Casting / Embossing (铸造/压花): Logo cast directly into custom handles (requires custom molds).
- If your private label project requires a unique handle design, helper handle, or non-standard vessel size, you must invest in custom tooling.
- Sourcing standard: Custom tooling paid for by the buyer must remain the sole property of the buyer. The supplier is prohibited from using these molds for other customers.
- Amortization clause: Negotiate a mold fee refund threshold (e.g., supplier refunds $100\%$ of the mold charge once the buyer places cumulative orders exceeding 5,000 units of that SKU).
3. Packaging & Box Finishes
- Retail Color Box: Typically constructed from high-density paperboard (e.g., $350\text{g} - 400\text{g}$ CCNB bonded to E-flute corrugated cardboard) to prevent crushing.
- Box Finishes: Specify surface finishes such as Matte Lamination or Glossy Lamination, Spot UV highlights for the brand name, and Foil Stamping (Gold/Silver) for premium collections.
- Transit Protection: Specify master cartons made of double-wall corrugated cardboard (BC-flute) to resist moisture and high stacking pressures during ocean transit. Ensure packaging is verified against ISTA 3A or similar drop test protocols.

10. Supplier Discussion Questions
- Which of your standard cookware bodies can accommodate our handle design without requiring new body tooling?
- What is the mold design time, sample tooling lead time, and mass production tooling lead time for custom handles?
- What is the maximum weight capacity of your master cartons, and do you perform ISTA drop tests in-house?
- Do you work with global non-stick coating brands like Whitford or Greblon? Can we request specific coatings?
- Can you provide a draft of your social audit report (BSCI/SMETA) and ISO certificate for our compliance officer’s review?
